Sketchbook Cover

My sketchbook cover illustrates the contrast. I use the principle of contrast with the light standing out from the black to visually portray the opposition. I use pictures I have taken with my phone at my home and during my tour of Europe with American Music Abroad. They all show things that have made me who I am today, whether it is a certain time, feeling, or a specific object. The main photo was taken with my phone at Cape May during a vacation I went on with my family and close friends. I watched the sun rise and set everyday. I used this photo as my focus for many reasons. In a straightforward sense, the sunsets I saw at Cape May were the prettiest I have ever seen and I loved being able to share them with the people I love. In addition, it has a split complementary color scheme I liked and made good use of the rule of thirds. Symbolically, I used this picture because it portrays how "the sun is setting" on my childhood. Depending on how the viewer sees it, the picture could be considered a sunrise. This ambiguity works to my advantage, as an old chapter ends and a new one begins. I decided to use contrast not only because I think both the city and the country are beautiful, but also because there is much tension and opposition within me as I decide what I want to do after high school. The cover portrays me because I tend to contradict myself, but I am usually able to make it work, and it is often what makes me stand out.

My Best Photo

I took this photo the first day of summer. I think it has good use of the role of thirds and coveys a sense of pride. The colors are vibrant and I enhanced them through photoshop.
